Hello, Bonjour, こんにちは, Shekoli. 

My name is Brett Watson. I am Oneida Nation of the Thames and bear clan. Chief instructor of the Shorinjiryu karate school Hakuto Washi no Ken(Eagle Sword). Currently hold rank of Yondan in Shorinjiryu and honorary rank and title in ITF Taekwondo, Seikido and associated schools in London Ontario. My school is driven by my indigenous culture and heritage.

I had the pleasure of joining the shorinjiryu family in 1997, being introduced to Sensei Emanuel Hawthorne at my friendship center N’Amerind. As I began my journey I got to meet many karateka in surrounding cities to which I discovered that Shorinjiryu has a deep network around the world. Upon my promotion to Shodan I became an official member of the Shorinjiryu Shinzen Kyokai, spearheaded by Hanshi Myron Lubitsch. During this time I took an offer to also participate in learning Taekwondo. I had the honor to train under the guidance of Olympic gold medalist Grand Master Dan Simard. In the upcoming years I took over as chief instructor at N’Amerind. I’m currently an active member within the Shinzen Kyokai.

I've been fortunate to participate in many world tournaments and have competed with the best Shorinjiryu has to offer, placing alongside my peers. I have also competed in the North American Indigenous Games where I earned gold. However, my greatest achievement is what I have given back to my community. I dedicated my skills to helping low-income families and providing youth the opportunity to participate in an organized karate association. I also have been part of many workshops and healing lodges, on and off reserve, where I focused my skills on assisting the recovery of indigenous youth who are troubled and/or suffering from addictions. I have grown to be a leader within my community and continue to serve my people.

Through my journey I have met some incredible and talented people who have forever influenced me. Without them I would not be the person I am today. I look forward to sharing a bright future together.

Je m’appelle Brett Watson. Je suis membre de la Nation Oneida de la Thames, du clan de l’Ours, et instructeur-chef de l’école de karaté Shorinjiryu Hakuto Washi no Ken (Épée de l’Aigle). Je détiens actuellement le grade de Yondan en Shorinjiryu ainsi qu’un grade et un titre honorifiques en Taekwondo ITF, Seikido et dans des écoles associées situées à London, en Ontario. Mon école est profondément inspirée par ma culture et mon héritage autochtones.

J’ai eu le plaisir de rejoindre la famille Shorinjiryu en 1997, lorsque j’ai été présenté à Sensei Emanuel Hawthorne au centre d’amitié N’Amerind. Dès le début de mon parcours, j’ai rencontré de nombreux karatékas des villes avoisinantes, ce qui m’a permis de découvrir que le Shorinjiryu est un réseau profondément enraciné à travers le monde. Après ma promotion au Shodan, je suis devenu membre officiel de la Shorinjiryu Shinzen Kyokai, dirigée par Hanshi Myron Lubitsch. C’est également durant cette période que j’ai saisi l’occasion d’étudier le Taekwondo, et j’ai eu l’honneur de m’entraîner sous la direction du Maître Dan Simard, médaillé d’or olympique. Dans les années qui ont suivi, j’ai pris la relève comme instructeur-chef au N’Amerind, et je suis aujourd’hui membre actif de la Shinzen Kyokai.

J’ai eu la chance de participer à de nombreux tournois mondiaux et de me mesurer aux meilleurs pratiquants que le Shorinjiryu a à offrir, décrochant des classements honorables aux côtés de mes pairs. J’ai également représenté ma communauté aux Jeux autochtones d’Amérique du Nord, où j’ai remporté une médaille d’or. Toutefois, ma plus grande fierté reste ce que j’ai pu redonner à ma communauté. J’ai consacré mes compétences à soutenir les familles à faible revenu et à offrir aux jeunes la possibilité de pratiquer le karaté au sein d’une structure organisée.

J’ai aussi participé à de nombreux ateliers et cercles de guérison, sur les réserves comme à l’extérieur, où j’ai utilisé mes connaissances pour accompagner des jeunes autochtones en difficulté ou aux prises avec des dépendances. Je suis devenu un leader au sein de ma communauté, et je continue de servir mon peuple avec engagement.

Tout au long de mon parcours, j’ai rencontré des personnes incroyables et talentueuses qui m’ont profondément marqué. Sans elles, je ne serais pas l’homme que je suis aujourd’hui.

Je me réjouis à l’idée de partager un avenir lumineux à vos côtés.
