Darren Hunter

Shihan Darren Hunter holds a 6th degree black belt, Rokkudan in Shorinjiryu Kentokukan Karatedo. He is the sole representative of this Shorinjiryu Kentokukan Karatedo in Ontario. He also holds a 1st degree black belt, Shodan in Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo. Shihan Hunter began his study of Budo in Montreal in 1988, under Shinan Wayne Donivan 9th Dan, and continues to study under him today. He also studied Judo under Hanshi Hiroshi Nakamura 9th Dan Kodokan Judo, and holds a 3rd degree black belt, Sandan in Kosen Judo, and a 4th degree black belt, Yondan in Japanese Jujutsu. Shihan Hunter currently holds a 4th kyu in Aikido and a Level 2 instructor certification in Commando Krav Maga under its founder Moni Aizik.  

Shihan Hunter taught Karatedo, Judo, Jujutsu, Catch Wrestling, Sambo, and No Gi grappling classes, at the SHUYOKAN DOJO. The SHUYOKAN DOJO was operated by Sensei Hunter from three locations (Rosenberg Center for Defensive Studies, Brad Jones Karate Dojo, Wulin Martial Arts Academy) in the Toronto/Newmarket Ontario area, from 2007 to 2016. In 2016, Shihan Hunter moved to Ottawa, and established the SHUYOKAN in the Ottawa area, where he teaches, children’s and adult classes.     

Shihan Hunter has trained extensively in the Japanese Arts of Karatedo, Judo, Jujutsu, Aikido, Kendo, and Kenjutsu. He has also trained in the Chinese arts of Tai Chi, Shuai Chiao, and has been exposed the fighting system of the WU JING (People’s republic of China’s special military police).

Shihan Darren Hunter détient un grade de 6e dan (Rokkudan) en Shorinjiryu Kentokukan Karatedo. Il est le seul représentant de ce style en Ontario. Il possède également un grade de 1er dan (Shodan) en Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo. Shihan Hunter a commencé ses études du Budo à Montréal en 1988, sous la direction de Shinan Wayne Donivan (9e dan), et continue de s’entraîner sous sa direction aujourd'hui.
