Larry Foisy

Il commence le Shorinjiryu Shindo karatedo en 1995, gradué pour obtenir le shodan en 1998. Il devient le bras droit de son enseignant et développe la passion de l’enseignement des arts martiaux à 17 ans et depuis enseigne le karatédo intensivement. 

Débute le iaido en 1996-1997 MJER sous la supervision de Kunishita Kuniko Sensei jusqu’à son départ pour l’Université en 2000. Il s’entraîna de manière autonome et initie les gens au iaido jusqu’en 2022 où il renoue avec sa lignée Masaoka-Den sous la supervision de Carl E. Long 8e dan Hanshi (22e successeur de la lignée).

Multiple champion de kata et de combat Koshiki régional, canadien, nord-américain, panaméricain et mondial (Canada 2007, États-Unis 2009, Allemagne 2011) où il décide de raccrocher les gants pour se dédier à l’entraînement des futurs athlètes canadiens. Il organise des compétitions régionales et le Canada Koshiki Open depuis 2008.

Il crée le dojo de Sherbrooke Ishin Denshi Dojo en 2006 qui est un espace pour la pratique des arts martiaux traditionnelle (karatedo, aikido, iaido, San Soo, Kudo, Kung Fu,…). Il étudia la biomécanique et les troubles musculo-squelettique de 2012 à 2016 afin de devenir Kinésithérapeute/orthothérapeute. Depuis son arrivée à Sherbrooke en 2004, il est formateur en milieu scolaire, communautaire, corporatif, où il enseigne à temps plein le Karaté (précurseur du Shorinjiryu-Ha Kaizen), l’autodéfense, Le buki-Ho Shishiryu no Bo/Saï, le combat Koshiki, le Kudo et le iaido/iaijutsu.

Having also practiced Judo (1st Kyu), Aikido, Japanese Ju Jutsu, and Muay Thai, he began training in Shorinjiryu Shindo Karatedo in 1995 and earned his Shodan in 1998. He became his teacher’s right-hand man and developed a passion for teaching martial arts at the age of 17. Since then, he has been intensively teaching Karatedo.

He started practicing Iaido in 1996-1997 (MJER) under the supervision of Kunishita Kuniko Sensei until leaving for university in 2000. He continued training independently and introduced others to Iaido until 2022 when he reconnected with the Masaoka-Den lineage under the supervision of Carl E. Long, 8th Dan Hanshi (22nd successor of the lineage).

A multiple-time champion in Koshiki kata and combat at the regional, Canadian, North American, Pan-American, and world levels (Canada 2007, USA 2009, Germany 2011), he decided to retire from competition to focus on training future Canadian athletes. Since 2008, he has been organizing regional competitions and the Canada Koshiki Open.

In 2006, he founded the Sherbrooke Ishin Denshi Dojo, a space dedicated to the practice of traditional martial arts (Karatedo, Aikido, Iaido, San Soo, Kudo, Kung Fu, and more). From 2012 to 2016, he studied biomechanics and musculoskeletal disorders to become a kinesiotherapist/orthotherapist.

Since moving to Sherbrooke in 2004, he has worked as a trainer in schools, community settings, and corporate environments, teaching karate (a forerunner of Shorinjiryu-Ha Kaizen), self-defense, Buki-Ho Shishiryu no Bo/Sai, Koshiki combat, Kudo, and Iaido/Iaijutsu full-time.
